Jeff Wright: Lucky to be alive after discovering (alleged) coke dealers don't like to be paid in funny money
Sounds like quite a scene for Houston Police to roll up on last month...

According to court records, on October 16, a squad car was dispatched to the scene of a disturbance with a weapon in the 4500 block of Yale, just north of Crosstimbers in Independence Heights.

Just as they arrived, they saw 33-year-old Jeffrey Tomorris Wright clamber out of the trunk of a 2012 Hyundai. Wright ran over to the cops and gave them the low-down.

Wright told the cops that he had just purchased a large quantity of cocaine from two others on the scene -- Gregory Deshaum Scott and Rodney Leon Bookman. Wright added that he had paid for the blow in part with counterfeit cash, and his ruse had been discovered.

Which of course peeved Scott and Bookman mightily. Wright told police that Bookman was miffed enough to fetch a pistol and point it at him, whereupon Wright fled but was tracked down by a third suspect and dragged back to Bookman. According to Wright, Scott snatched the pistol from Bookman and started belting Wright about the face and head and ordered him to go in the trunk.

And shortly thereafter police came to the scene. Once there, they found 287 grams of powder cocaine, approximately $15,000 worth of funny money, and $3,950 in legit cash in an Infiniti registered to Bookman. (Cops also found a similar sum of real money on the persons of Bookman and Scott.)

Scott and Bookman were each charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bookman was also charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.

As for Wright, the former New Orleanian now faces a charge of forgery of a financial instrument.

All involved are currently out on bond.
