Michael Flores: Charged with intoxication manslaughter.
A drunk driver hit a man who was on an elevated freeway shoulder trying to fix his car, sending the victim flying down to the service road below, police say.

Michael Anthony Flores, 37, was driving southbound in the 9300 block of North Freeway about 8:30 Friday night, HPD says.

His GMC Sierra drifted over to the shoulder and rammed into a Chevrolet Suburban that was parked there, with its driver under the hood trying to fix a mechanical problem. The impact threw the Suburban driver, whose identity is pending verification, off the elevated freeway onto the service road below, police say.

"Flores then fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended by an off-duty police officer a short distance away," HPD says. The victim was taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital, where he died.

Flores is charged with intoxication manslaughter.
