UPDATED: Music Editor Chris Gray Is Holding His Own
UPDATE: On Monday afternoon, Chris Gray's dad said his son has his eyes open, is responsive to sounds and has moved around. It is still too early to determine what all has happened to him, however, because doctors still can't tell how much the lingering effects of the heavy medication he received while he was in an induced coma are affecting Chris. The family is taking turns sitting with Chris while he's in the hospital. Doctors are continuing to wean Chris off the machines, his dad said, and hope to finish that in the next day or so.

Further update: Chris's mom says he's off the respirator! And his CAT scan came back normal. "He's still pretty goofy" from all the sedation, she said, but his doctors think he'll make a 100 percent recovery from the heart attack. Biggest news: Chris will have to quit smoking and his mom asked us to "spread the word: No one should send Chris cigarettes!"
As many of you know, Houston Press Music Editor Chris Gray suffered an apparent heart attack Friday morning and since then has been hospitalized.
His father said this morning that they really appreciate all the concern everyone has shown for his 36-year-old son. He said doctors have said it will probably be Monday before they can fully assess Chris's condition.
Our readers are encouraged to post a best-wishes comment here. We'll make sure Chris gets all of them once he's up and around and back heading up our music coverage.
And at this point, the Houston Press would like to thank the passerby who gave Chris CPR, the ambulance personnel and the medical staff for all they're doing to bring him back to good health.
Please join us in keeping Chris Gray in your thoughts and prayers.
