Comment of the Day: Learning English in a Texas POW Camp
We have some great commenters here on Hair Balls, and it's time we paid some damn attention to them.
So we'll be highlighting a Comment of the Day each morning, from the previous day's work. Maybe two comments, even.
This will all be determined by a highly rigorous scientific formula involving wit, clarity and whatever else we feel like at the moment.
We discussed the POW camps built across Texas during World War II. There were inept escape attempts, friendships born and other things.
One reader related his own experience.

I was in Stuttgart Germany in the 70s. My taxi driver spoke excellent English, which I commented on. I asked him where he learned to speak English. He told me he was a prisoner of war in Texas for 3 years. Lucky man, I think.
