No Light Rail for Houston Press Best of Houston® BestFest
Thanks, Metro: You've taken away the best option for getting to and from the Houston Press Best of Houston® BestFest.
Buses will take the place of rail.
There's no light-rail service this weekend "to allow Texas Children's Hospital to continue construction on a pedestrian bridge over Fannin Street that will connect all of the hospital's patient care facilities." So thanks, too, Texas Children's Hospital.
The rail will also be shut two weekends in October, but we don't really care about that at this point.
All is not lost, however: Shuttle buses will run along the rail route.
Says Metro:
During the shutdown, rail customers will be served by shuttle buses (Route 700) running parallel to the rail line, both north and south, except in the Medical Center. Patrons who normally board from the Memorial Hermann Hospital/Houston Zoo or Dryden/TMC station platforms can find the shuttle bus on Main Street for travel north and southbound.
A bus is as good as a train in a pinch. And it's easier to add more buses if they're needed. Metro will have extra personnel along the route to help guide riders, but they do ask that you give yourself a little extra time for your trip.
Rail service is out from Friday, Sept. 23, at 9:00 p.m. to Sunday, Sept. 25, at 11:59 p.m. Here's a map and further details.
