Comment of the Day: The Debate Over Last Meal Requests on Death Row
We have some great commenters here on Hair Balls, and it's time we paid some damn attention to them.
So we'll be highlighting a Comment of the Day each morning, from the previous day's work. Maybe two comments, even.
This will all be determined by a highly rigorous scientific formula involving wit, clarity and whatever else we feel like at the moment.
We wrote about how the Texas Department of Criminal Justice will no longer be giving condemned inmates a chance to request a last meal, in the wake of a key state senator getting outraged by an over-the-top request by James Byrd's racist killer.
It generated a ton of comments.

[State Senator john] Whitmire said the last meal request is an "extremely inappropriate" privilege, "one which the perpetrator did not provide to their victim."We offer them a last meal request to make it seem like we are better than the person getting executed. Since Whitmire thinks we should treat prisoners as they treated their victims, doesn't that make us as a society guilty of the same crime?
