Willie Koehler: Child Rapist Suing From Prison Over Repo'd Pickup

Willie Koehler demands his rights.
In 2006, Willie Koehler of Texas City borrowed $19,000 to buy a 2007 Ford F-150. He agreed to have Amoco Federal Credit Union automatically debit $355 from his account every month, and Koehler always made sure he was flush enough to cover the payments.

But then, according to a lawsuit Koehler filed in Galveston County District Court, the credit union repossessed the truck in July 2009 for no good reason. Koehler didn't even find out until afterward that the credit union didn't even collect the May and June 2009 payments -- and when Koehler did find out, he wasn't able to do anything about it. Why? Because he was serving a life sentence in prison for the aggravated sexual assault of a child. So now he's suing the credit union for $1.5 million.

At 5'11" and 303 lbs., the 67-year-old Koehler cuts an imposing figure. But he apparently thought the Brazoria County jury deciding his fate would consider him to be a big ol' teddy bear, because, according to his self-filed complaint, "plaintiff had not anticipated that he would get convicted."

Apparently, being locked up for child rape while greedy credit union thugs repo your sweet ride takes a toll: Koehler is suing for severe mental anguish "in the fact that plaintiff had been incarcerated at the time of the truck's repossession" and he "was in a position where he could do nothing due to his incarceration." (Frankly, we're surprised that the vehicle in question is a pickup truck, and not a white van with the rear windows blacked out.)

Koehler just might have a shot -- we've scanned the loan documents he enclosed in the court filing, and there was no explicitly stated "In Case of Conviction of Child Rape" clause, so how could Koehler have possibly known that life imprisonment would void the contract? It seems patently unfair.

We're sure that his fellow inmates in Huntsville's Ellis Unit are helping him through this difficult time.
