Fatal stabbing and shooting in same fight.
Two men died in an early morning altercation today at a gas station near the West Loop and W. 18th Street, one by being stabbed to death and the other, the guy doing the stabbing, by a policeman's gun.

No names have been released yet, but Houston police said two off-duty officers were working security at the El Chaparral nightclub about 2:15 this morning. They saw a fight develop at a nearby gas station and went to break it up.

The Houston Chronicle reports they pulled one man off, but he went to his car, got a knife and came back stabbing.

"One of the officers saw the assault and ordered the attacker several times to drop the knife. The man ignored the commands and continued to stab the victim," the Chron reports. "That's when the officer fired several shots, hitting the knife-wielding man."

The man who had been shot actually got in a vehicle and tried to drive away, but crashed into some nearby bushes.

As with all officer-involved shootings, the case will be sent to a Harris County grand jury.
