David Allen Smith: Busted for Kiddy Porn after Wife Turns Geek Squad Loose on Computer
Marriage and a weakness for child porn. It's a combo that doesn't mix. 
He doesn't look like he'd have kiddie porn at ALL.
The latest area man to find that out the hard way is 67-year-old David Allen Smith of Lufkin.
Police there say Smith's vile stash came to light after his wife took their computer to Best Buy last Wednesday to have their files transferred to a new hard drive. Once they opened up the hood on Smith's computer, the Geek Squad turned into G-Men, according to Lufkin police detective Otis Almond.
"Best Buy called one of our patrolmen after seeing file names that indicated child pornography. This is the first time in my six years in the cyber crimes division we've made an arrest this way. Best Buy handled the situation perfectly," Almond told the Lufkin Daily News. "(Smith) came to the police department on Monday to talk to us. He confessed that the files were child porn that he had downloaded and was very apologetic."
According to authorities, Smith does not have a police record. Lufkin cops are continuing their investigation, and once concluded, will charge him with a felony, though the degree could range from third to first. His bail was set at $5,000 and he had bonded out of Angelina County Jail by Wednesday morning.
A Best Buy spokesman told KTRE that the Geek Squad does not routinely rummage around in peoples' hard drives, but that in a hard drive transfer like the one Smith's wife asked for, it is necessary that they do. The spokesman said that if they discover suspicious files in the natural order of doing that, they deem it their responsibility to inform police.
