The rat bastard(s) still hasn't been nabbed, but now a program for low-income kids has ascended out of the toilet.

On Tuesday, FotoFest's Literacy Through Photography got the big-time hook-up from Houston Camera Exchange and H-E-B. The indie photo shop donated 36 cameras to replace those jacked from Ben Tecumseh DeSoto's car on June 22, while the grocery retailer chipped in $2,000.

As of the time this post was published, an additional $1,982 had been raised through an online campaign on FotoFest's website.

When Hair Balls spoke to DeSoto on July 14, he said that 40 kids were sharing five cameras. Snapshots with these as well as the new devices will be exhibited in the "Framework for the Future" exhibit, scheduled to take place from August 13 through September 11 at Project Row Houses, 2125 Holman.
