Berndt Brothers: Grand Jury Does Not Indict Pair Who Left Dead Mom on Floor for Months

The Berndt brothers won't face charges.
Edward and Edwin Berndt, the brothers who let their mother's rotting corpse sit in their living rooms for months, will not face criminal charges, KHOU reports.

Their attorney, Robert Scardino, told the station a grand jury decided not to indict the two because they are mentally disabled.

As we wrote in April, the two were charged with murder after police came to their house in the 8400 block of Glenscot near Hobby Airport. There cops saw the decomposing body of Sybil Berndt, 89, crawling with insects.

The brothers told police their mother had tripped and fallen and they did not move her or call 911. She was rotting for three months before the stench caused neighbors to call police.

Complicating matters was a report that the mother had a $700,000 trust fund, but grand jurors were apparently convinced that was no motive for what happened.

KHOU has more warped details of the scene from Scardino; check it out.
