Dynamo Best Astros in Winless Streak

The situation is beginning to look grim for the Dynamo, as they fell to the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 on the road. The Orange are now without a win in seven games, edging the Astros' six game losing streak from mid-May for the longest Houston winless streak this summer.

In all fairness, the Dynamo did have three ties in the month of May, all against top five teams in MLS. But the 4-1 shellacking of DC United back in the end of April seems like months ago.

The Dynamo entered Saturday's game at Buck Shaw Stadium with limited depth. Andre Hainault, Jermaine Taylor, and Je-Vaughn Watson are away for national team duties for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, while injuries and suspensions thinned out Dominic Kinnear's game-day roster.

Even then, the Dynamo played a fairly sound game. They took the game to the Quakes in the first half, dominating possession and getting better scoring opportunities. However, the team came out sluggish in the second half and could never find the rhythm from the first 45 minutes. Then came the team's now-infamous lapses on defense. First in the 69th minute, Steven Lenhart slipped under the Dynamo's backline to head home the 1-0 lead. In second half stoppage time, Simon Dawkins got behind the defense and scored to put the game away.

Not all news is bad for the Orange. Even with their seven game winless streak, the Dynamo still sit at fourth place with 15 points in the weak Eastern Conference. Still, one has to wonder what, if any, roster shakeups are in store for this team at the summer's transfer window. Since the Astros are not the talk of the town, the Dynamo have a chance to create some buzz if they can get back to their winning ways. They better do it soon, the Dynamo cannot afford to slip out of MLS Cup playoff contention so early in the season.

You know it's bad when the Astros are being compared to a soccer team.
