A man who tried to smuggle guns on a Greyhound bus and then engaged in a wild downtown shootout with police apparently killed himself after being injured, Houston police say.

The exchange of shots and SWAT team reaction to the man barricading himself in a parking garage led to the shutdown of the Pierce Elevated late Saturday afternoon and an interruption of light-rail service.

The man, whose identity was not released, was seen with a gun in his bag by an off-duty cop working security at the Greyhound station in the 2100 block of Main about 5:15 p.m. Saturday.

A Taser didn't have any effect and the man started shooting, running towards the nearby McDonald's where another cop exchanged shots with him and finally heading for the parking garage at an Amegy bank branch. Along the way he kept pulling guns out of a duffel bag.

Two officers were slightly injured in the incident.

Updated: The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Brown is a suspect in the killing of three people, including a three-year-old girl, on Halloween.
