Very, Very Determined Mountain Lion Denied Chance to Eat President Obama in El Paso

Dedicated mountain lion says Yes We Can, learns otherwise.

We only know the cat must have really wanted to see President Obama, in town for the day, and we're guessing the only reason a wild mountain lion wants to meet any human is to eat them.

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department details a thrilling chase this morning, which ended with an El Paso cop and -- for some reason -- a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission officer shooting the unnamed, 125-pound female mountain lion to death.

It was the first time a mountain lion had been shot within city limits in "three or four years," TPWD said.

The cat was seen about 8:30 in the morning near some railroad tracks; she was chased into the parking garage of a state government building, where she was hit with tranquilizer dart number one.

"Before the drug could take full effect, it jumped from the second floor of the garage back onto the street, heading north out of downtown with multiple agencies in hot pursuit," TPWD says.

It ran into a car wash and officers locked it in with the building's security gates. Or so they thought.

The mountain lion lay down and took a second dart, but "despite that injection, the mountain lion took off and hit the fence, finding a space it was able to crawl through," the agency said.

This is one determined mountain lion. Luckily there was an armed TABC officer to handle things.
