Kevin Will: Killed while investigating an accident.
A man has been charged with intoxication manslaughter of a peace officer after he drove through a traffic barricade and into a Houston cop who was investigating a traffic accident this morning.

Officer Kevin S. Will, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene on the North Loop and Yale about 3:15 a.m. He leaves behind two kids and a wife who is six months pregnant. He was sworn in as an officer September 2009.

Johoan Rodriguez, 26, was in a VW Beetle when he went through barricades that had been set up after the accident. Police cars chased him, but he hit Will before they could stop him.

Rodriguez was also charged with felony evading in a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, reportedly cocaine.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Will had been interviewing a witness in the earlier accident and was able to warn him of the Beetle's approach. The witness was able to jump over the concrete barrier in the middle of the highway to safety.

Rodriguez was treated for minor injuries before being taken to jail.
