"Frenchfry": Charged with killing an elderly man taking out the garbage
Two months ago, Illinois police used a fingerprint to arrest a man for the 1988 rape of a 12-year-old girl in Orange County, Texas. In another OC-related cold case, police in Orange County last week arrested Frank Ulysses "Frenchfry" Tiller in connection with the beating death of an Indianapolis man in 1999.

Using evidence from the crime scene that had never been tested for DNA, Indianapolis police were able to locate and charge Tiller with the murder of Victor "Bud" Gregg, an 83-year-old man who was "jumped when taking out the trash behind his home." He was robbed of six bucks.

Unlike the Illinois case, where a drunk-driving arrest led to the arrest of a suspect who had lived quietly in suburban Chicago, the 50-year-old Tiller had a more checkered past: He pleaded guilty to assault of a family member in Orange County in 2010 and was sentenced to 90 days in jail. In 1995, he was arrested in Port Arthur and charged with assault; he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to a year in jail.

Between Texas arrests, he spent time in Florida, where he pleaded no contest to charges of battery and distribution of marijuana in 2002. (He was sentenced to one month and three days for the latter; sentencing information was not available for the former.)

According to WRTV-Indianapolis, "detectives said they can put Tiller within two miles of [the victim's] home five hours before he was killed."

We just hope that, at some point, Tiller will explain how he wound up with the alias "Frenchfry." It's not exactly the kind of thing that's going to impress his (probable) future associates in prison.
