Space Shuttle Blues: Obama Says He Had Nothing to Do With Decision

Right-wingers are salivating over this interview of President Obama by Brad Watson of Dallas's WFAA -- The Drudge Report has a huge headline, "First Time: Reporter Turns Aggressive With Obama."

It actually turns out to be a standard give-and-take, with maybe a bit more pressing than usual (Obama comments afterward that Watson should "let me finish my answers" next time).

One of the things Watson asks about is whether politics played a part in the decision not to give Houston a retired space shuttle.

"That's wrong," Obama says of criticism that politics played a role in the selection process.

"So the shuttle was not awarded to Houston due to politics?" Watson asks.

"I just said that was wrong," Obama answers. "We had nothing to do with it, the White House had nothing to do with it, there was a whole commission process, that's how the decision was made."

"And you weren't personally involved in the decision," Watson says.

"I just said that wasn't true," Obama answers.....which could be read two ways. It wasn't true he wasn't involved???!!?!

The mystery gets deeper.

does he even know ehat the truth is anymore? Or does he just say what feels like the right thing to say?

Alright, I can see that this has gotten out of control. The links are cherry picked to help support a certain view. Is anyone really going to debate the fact that the Drudge Report is completely there to serve the purpose of being a cheerleader and a spigot for the right to drink, and then spew forth what they read and assume is informed fact when in- fact it's a bunch of bullshit. As for PUH-LEEZ, I would love to know what you do for fun? I assume you go through the Bible picking certain scripture to help prove whatever point you want to make. I bet you think all those stories are true also.

I heard when you click on a link (like Yahoo or CBS, MSNBC, etc etc) thru Drudge it automatically changes the news story to spew forth right rhetoric!! Don't be fooled by Drudge's trick links!!

USA1, can you please stick to one handle, or two at the most? It's scaring me to think there are so many angry, undereducated and misinformed people out there commenting on this and that.

USA1, why did you abandon your handle? Do you do some investigatin' and book learnin' to find that the USA isn't really #1 these days?

Or was it the anti-janitorial comments that bothered you? Tell us. C'mon.

Let's put this in perspective. Would anyone in any city vote for Obama because he gave them a space shuttle? Do most people even care about the shuttles? Probably not. This is lower level government decisions. I doubt NASA gets Obama's opinions about where to place retired space relics.

The Drudge Report should be classified as fiction reading for entertainment purposes only. I have never seen, said news reporting, be so consistently off base, and without much in the way of facts. It seems to be headed and reported by a bunch of petulant children. I click on the site just so I can have a glimpse into the ridiculous minds of the fear mongering right (that's so often wrong). Houston didn't get a shuttle boo hoo. I don't think he gave a shit about who gets an old shuttle or not. He has a lot bigger issues that are pressing and have an impact on human life worldwide.

Oh Brother

The main story right now links to a Yahoo story. And of course we know what a bastion of right wingery Yahoo is, right? HA

san s

I think so.I believe Yahoo is very right wing. though it tries to downplay it. If not why didn't they attempt to clear up the issue. Wouldn't you be interested in knowing who was telling the truth. Don't you think it is odd they didn't even check procedure on the matter. If they did they would have mentioned the reporter is wrong. Obama like his predcissors don't chose the fates of retired space shuttles . Two commissions oversee what happens to NASA equipment one decides the status when it is out of commission--the other what to do with those not slated for destruction. And the commissions don't change from each White House administrations.

PUH-LEEZ
PUH-LEEZ

I happen to think Yahoo is as far left as they come. I guess opinions vary. I read their biased headlines every morning with my coffee for a laugh. It couldn't get any more obvious.

PUH-LEEZ
PUH-LEEZ

It's a site of links. Not all the sites he links to are right wing. Anyone can suggest a story from any website. You do realize that, right?? Speaking of ridiculous...

ClementV

what a dumb thing to say: a site of links. and not all link to right wing sites.

what would you call a commenter on a CBS site who thinks Ryan's budget plan is intellectually bold and courageous? would he be a lefty, righty, or just uninformed?

ClementV
ClementV

They are biased, but not left or right as you would argue. Traditionally, media has been biased in favor of the admin in power. They pretty much take for granted what they get from St. Dept. or other sources in the administration.

There was a study recently in this vein. Will see if I can locate it for you. I know you love to read more than blurbs online, right?

PUH-LEEZ
PUH-LEEZ

Here's a newsflash: Paul Ryan is not my hero in any sense of the word so you can quit barking up that tree, there's nothing in it.

If you truly believe the major media sites aren't biased, there is a bridge I'd like to sell you. It's blatantly obvious and only a gullible fool wouldn't see it.

ClementV
ClementV

God.Paul Ryan. You know: Hero to movement Repubs, the guy with the federal budget. That one.

My point is that initially commentators of all stripes said that Ryan was a serious, high-minded guy capable of some thoughtful budget work.Turns out not to be the case, yet the lib and conservative pundits fell for it.

Duh factor: giant sites like CBS and Yahoo etc that Drudge links to are not biased one way or the other.

PUH-LEEZ

What the hell are you even talking about? Ryan who?

I like how the interviewer was happy to include many Perry stances in his narration unchallenged but couldn't even show Obama enough respect to let him state his answers. I don't know how the president has the patience to humor these media hacks.

I frankly didn't see Obama not being allowed to finish an answer. I think what Obama didn't like was that this reporter wasn't afraid to press him.

H_e_x

No, I'm agreeing with you. W was the best president ever in the history of the United States, which to my knowledge was when history itself began. He was a saint and never made any mistakes, which is why he never admitted any when he was in office. Only someone with the touch of the Holy Spirit could go so long without admitting to a single instance of fallacy. Sure, he started a few wars, but the magic is that when this current guy, who doesn't even look like most people (am I right, wink wink nudge nudge *dog whistle*), came into office he automatically became responsible for everything that happened previously. Well, not the good stuff, only the bad stuff. Only a Luddite doesn't know that Muslims born in Kenya have the power to time travel and start wars, only to blame them on the honorable white Christian knight known as W.

No, he was a glorious man and did everything right! To hate on him is to hate on America! The past has absolutely no bearing on anything ever! To say otherwise is to hate America.
