Kindergarten Mayhem: Kid Brings Gun to Class, It Goes Off
Three kindergartners at Ross Elementary were injured this morning because one of them brought a gun to class and dropped it, setting it off.
It's show-and-tell time!!
"None of the wounds are considered life-threatening," HISD spokesman Jason Spencer says.
So there's that -- no life-threatening wounds from a freaking kindergartner with a gun.
"One 6-year-old boy was wounded in the foot. One 6-year-old boy was wounded in the leg. One 5-year-old girl was wounded in the foot," Spencer says.
The weapon was loaded and fell to the cafeteria floor during lunch about 10:22 this morning at the school, Spencer says. The school is located near Ellington Field on the northside.
Rest easy, though: "HISD police are investigating how the child, a 6-year-old boy, obtained the gun," he says.
Reporters like KHOU's Alex Sanz are tweeting photos of parents taking their kids out of the school.
Update: KPRC has posted raw video of the no-doubt shocked and confused kids being loaded into ambulances, thanks to the parents/guardians of the year who left the gun available to a kid.

Update: HISD won't comment on specific disciplinary measures, but did direct media to its policy on students bringing guns to schools:
Students under the age of 10 who bring firearms to school shall be expelled for a term of one year, and the term of the expulsion shall be modified in order to allow for their education in an HISD DAEP for a period of one year.
DAEP stands for Disciplinary Alternative Education Program, or what's commonly called alternative schools.
