George Ellington: Sheriff's Deputy Pleads Guilty to Helping Ecstasy Ring
Former Harris County Sheriff's Deputy George Wesley Ellington entered a guilty plea today to an extortion charge that arose out of his helping an Ecstasy operation with information and armed security.
Ellington faces up to five years.
Ellington, 38, faces up to five years in prison.
"At today's hearing," the U.S. Attorney's office said, "Ellington acknowledged that were this case to go to trial, the United States could prove that in April 2010 he accepted $500 for using his position as a then Harris County Deputy Sheriff to access confidential information from secured law enforcement databases and for providing security/protection in his official capacity to a person he believed was illegally possessing and transporting 3, 4 Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly called Ecstasy. "
Ellington had also been charged with carrying a weapon to escort the Ecstasy deliveryman.
His wife, Katrise Tania Ellington, 31, has been charged with aiding and abetting the enterprise.
Ellington will remain free on bond pending a June 30 sentencing hearing in front of U.S. District Judge Keith Ellison.
