Bryan Fancher: No help needed
Last Friday afternoon, Duane and Delois Lout of Shelbyville were driving on Highway 103 East in rural Angelina County when they came upon an alarming sight: an apparently injured man lying in the road.

Delois Lout stopped the car, and Duane, her 64-year-old husband and the chief of Shelbyville's volunteeer fire department, got out to help the man, later identified as 45-year-old Bryan Fancher, of the backwoods lakeside hamlet of Etoile (population: 70).

And with no warning or explanation, Fancher is alleged to have jumped up and started beating on the older man. Delois Lout, fresh off back surgery, watched in horror and then tried to "nudge" Fancher out of the way with her car until Fancher tried to get in beside her.

East Texas TV station KTRE picks up the tale:

"He just come up there cussing and fighting and raising Cain and eventually he quit," Duane Lout said. "But, then he tried getting up in the car with my wife and that's when we got into it again."

Delois Lout's car didn't quite make contact with Fancher, but she really wants a piece of him now.

"I'd love for somebody to hold him and let me beat him with a baseball bat," she told KTRE. "That's really, I mean I'm sorry, but I mean my husband, I saw him getting beat up and bleeding, couldn't do anything."

Duane Lout says he won't stop helping people on account of this apparently crazed attack. He says he will be more careful about doing it, but, as he put it to KTRE, "[Y]ou can't let one knothead stop the world, you know."

Fancher's criminal history reportedly includes convictions for assault and aggravated robbery, among other lesser offenses.
