Aggie Conservatives Denounce Gay Seminar With Single Greatest Quote in 21st-Century Higher Education

Conservative groups at Texas A&M are shocked if not outraged if not offended if not panties-wadded about a (gasp!) "Safe and Fun Sex" seminar apparently given by the GLBT Resource Center.

Sex therapist Cay Crow (or, as the conservatives' broadside puts it, " 'open-minded, liberal, free spirit' Cay Crow') led the event, and....well...prepare to get the vapors.

Crow taught students in graphic detail ways to enhance fellatio and cunnilingus (i.e. oral sex). She specifically discussed how to put a condom on someone with one's mouth, deep-throating, G-spot stimulation, tongue piercings, condoms, genital shaving, and changing the temperature of one's mouth.

Somehow we believe the rightwingers needed that "i.e, oral sex."

But it gets better.

"Texas A&M should not be using taxpayers', students', and donors' money to teach unchaste sexual behavior to young, unmarried men and women," said Justin Pulliam, chairman of the Texas Aggie Conservatives. "What does the university administration have to say about this funding inequality and bias?"

"Unchaste sexual behavior to young, unmarried men and women"? What does he mean -- necking in the back of a hot-rod? The scourge of such sin dens as drive-in movie theaters, where second base might be reached even before marriage?

Frankly, we thought that quote had to be a joke. So we e-mailed Pulliam to make sure.

CampusReform.org distributed a press release on our behalf, and the quote you sent is correct. Let me know if you have more questions about the story.

Gig 'em,

Justin Pulliam '12

Gig `em, indeed.

Anyway, the groups went on to urge support for the Lege's push to demand that Texas colleges that have GLBT Centers also have "family values" centers, so things will be rectified soon.

Although we don't quite know what the family-values equivalent of "enhanc[ing] fellatio and cunnilingus (i.e. oral sex)" is.

It is patently offensive to call the existence of GLBT groups, who may or may not promote safer sex education, as "funding inequality". I quickly googles student activities and found 23 recognized religious groups and 5 recognized political groups; there are another 50-70 groups "in transition" which means they are up for funding, potentially, in the future. The majority of those are perfectly capable and willing to sponsor a "no sex before marriage campaign". There is no funding disparity.

The real issue here is that Texas A&M, a public university, has not been viewpoint neutral, has unjustly chosen sides institutionally and financially. Texas A&M and the GLBT Center programs push a one-sided and perverse sexual worldview onto A&M students that is contrary to traditional moral values like chastity. Through taxes and mandatory student fees, Texas A&M forces conservative taxpayers and students to pay for the GLBT Center's one-sided and perverse programs that conservatives strongly oppose. Texas A&M University institutionally support and annually gives about $90,000 in tax money and mandatory student fees to the GLBT Center while conservative family, marriage, and chastity education receives absolutely no support or funding from the university. Texas A&M administration and faculty claim to be for "diversity," but they are using taxpayer money and mandatory student fees to fund the promotion only one sexual worldview and to fund opposition to traditional moral values like chastity.

You are absolutely wrong. Please get your facts straight. No one is "pushing" anything. The GLBT resource center is there for GLBT students who need education and support -- they have the one of the highest suicide and drop out rates in the country. 2-3 GLBT aggies attempt suicide a month. But no one is forced to go to the GLBT center, just like no one is forced to go to any student center on campus. The administration has NOT as of today made a statement in support of the GLBT, as a matter of fact many GLBT students are feeling ostracized and scared and unsupported by the administration. The safe-sex talk was not forced upon anyone. Although hetereosexual safe sex is taught in the classroom at TAMU (which no one seems to be complaining about), SAFE sex for GLBT students are not covered in those classes. And so a speaker was provided to fill that need. Students are adults, and so even if YOU consider it "porn" it is not YOUR right to tell others they can not attend, but this talk was not forced upon anyone. Just like christian speakers are not forced upon the jewish and muslim students on campus. A total of $20 of tax payers money was spent to take the speaker to dinner, and no more. If you don't believe this, then go and look at close look at the financial statements that Texas Aggie Conservatives requested through freedom of information and then posted. The issue here is live-and-let-live -- that is tolerance. NO ONE is asking the TAC to go away, NO ONE is asking the TAC or any other student to be GLBT, NO ONE is asking students to attend GLBT meetings or programming. What is being asked for is letting the GLBT students live their lives and have equal access to education and mental and emotional support. THAT is tolerance. GLBT do not have to follow a fundamental christian lifestyle, and fundamental christian students do not have to follow a GLBT lifestyle.

"Texas A&M should not be using taxpayers', students', and donors' money to teach unchaste sexual behavior to young, unmarried men and women,"

How is this in any way ridiculous? How would you have put this statement in a more sensible way?

Whatever your opinion on the topic this article was hardly sensible in discussing it, and would probably fit better amongst the articles of The Onion.

Lala
Lala

This state is ridiculous because it attacks people and calls them "unchaste" for wanting to learn more about a very natural human behavior. And who are they to assume that there weren't any married men or women in attendance at this seminar?

True Freethinker
True Freethinker

Sex is natural! Every religion loves sex! We're not talking about sex here, we're talking about things like tongue piercings, condoms and genital shaving. They are clearly NOT natural. Might not be anything wrong with them, but they are no more natural than computers or airplanes.

As for "wanting to learn", WTF? I mean how retarded are these students. No seminar was needed to teach me about sex. I learned all I needed to know from the girls I dated and books that I read!

Texas A&M has around 25 recognized religious-based (mostly evangelical Christian) organizations, plus another 38 or so that are listed as "in transition". Religious Organizations at Texas A&M There are about 108 religious organizations altogether.

I was only able to find three organizations that serve the GLBT Texas A&M community.

Yet, Pulliam asks "What does the university administration have to say about this funding inequality and bias?"

guest

although i completely agree with you, the majority (if not all) of the religious organizations do not receive student fee money. they pay dues or get donations. they just get to be listed on the A&M website and can rent classrooms and things. the GLBT center at A&M receives 60,000 dollars in fee money.

fritzrth
fritzrth

I was under the impression that those organizations listed as recognized, do receive some assistance, if not all of their financial support, from student fees, while those listed as "not recognized" do not. At least that's the structure I've seen at other schools.

Thanks for the correction and information, to both you and Jennifer.

Jennifer

"In transition" means they recently had an officers election and some of the new officers haven't completed the required paperwork. It's the end of the school year, so lots of clubs are working through their officer transitions.

WOW.. making fun of people that actually have moral values... Whomever wrote this is worse than the people that they think are so wrong!

I couldn't agree more that I do not want my Taxes going to teach such things.

Aggie 09
Aggie 09

Why do you assume that the people who hosted or attended this seminar do not have "moral values" (an incredibly vague term)? Sex is not immoral, sex is a very natural human behavior. It is not some icky, evil thing like some people like to make it out to be. Furthermore, you do not get to dictate what is and is not moral (and neither does anyone else).

True Freethinker
True Freethinker

You're right that there is nothing wrong with sex between consenting adults, however there is a time and place for everything. Any civilized society will maintain that some things are private. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with tongue piercings, condoms or genital shaving but they are clearly NOT natural. Adults are free to do what they like within the law, but they shouldn't force other people to pay them via taxes.

There is no credible evidence that chastity belts existed before the 15th century, they are more of a product of fiction and sexual fantasies than "family values". But hey, according to you, any woman who isn't a slut must be wearing a chastity belt!

got to wonder how many of the conservatives are secretly gay and self loathing. The Family research council, one of the most virulent and hatefull groups against gays was founded by George Reker, who also headed the National Assocoiation for the treatment of homosexuality

Reker got caught paying an estimated 10,000$ or more to hire Jo-Vanni Roman, a gay college prostitute to go with him to Europe. Roman, code name lucien, admitted that he gave Reker massages on his private parts.

Its almost always that way. Remember minister Ted Haggard, Minister Barns, Sen Craig etc - all viruolently gay and finally outed.

It's already too late. The Battalion published an editorial from some guy about how these closeted Aggies were getting together in the basement bathroom at the library from Craigslist and "toe-tapping." I've looked at these listings for curiosity, and a lot of them say they have a girlfriend or are on the "downlow." So in other words, they're closeted Aggies. By the way, I neither live in College Station nor am I a male. So I'm not scouting for ass in Cowtown.

Tolerance is a two-way street, sure. As soon as rabid liberals start infringing on the rights of anti-gay people, then you'll have a point. Has that happened?

Guest

Well, yes. Rabid anti-gays believe that they have the right to discriminate against, attack, even beat gays to death. When liberals refuse to allow that, the anti-gays' rights are violated.

Yeah, and I don't disagree. But:

"Where's the "tolerance" for people with morals?"

Where's the intolerance? Where is anyone saying you shouldn't be allowed to personally believe what you want?

WHAAA
WHAAA

OK, just for you, Wyatt: Implying a large number of Conservatives are secretly gay and self loathing is horse shit with absolutely no proof. It's a desperate angle only a fool would take up.

FYI, for future reference, when you see my type "is that all you've got", that means I think the writer is penning lies without any proof whatsoever. your little He is the one making untrue allegations, not me.

Now, as far as tolerance. Try to comprehend this, and it's really a pretty simple concept. You have to "tolerate" people to receive "tolerance" yourself. Homosexual lifestyle supporters need to realize other people have other opinions on the subject and they need to respect those opinions. Do you understand?

oral sex is not safe sex". But how much of a risk are you actually taking if you choose to practice unprotected oral sex? The HSV-1 always caused by oral sex it increase the herpes ratio. the largest dating and support == herpesmate.com has more than 1,880,000 members and about 80% members are good looking in my estimation.

Unfortunately, STD rates soar worldwide and most people with STDs don't even know that they have them. The government should grant more money for STD education to lower the rates of STD transmission.
