What is it with people trying to cross the freeway on foot lately? In case you were unaware, this is a really, really bad idea. A man in his 50s died on Tuesday trying to make his way across the South Loop and now this.

An unidentified man was struck by an oncoming vehicle at around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday at 7000 Southwest Freeway. It's dangerous enough attempting this in the daytime, but trying it in pre-dawn rush hour dramatically increases your chances of being hit.

The driver of the black Chevy Suburban who hit the victim stopped and later provided a statement to police on the scene.

HPD's investigation is continuing.
