It's never a good idea to try and cross a freeway on foot. No matter how fast your 40 time was in high school, you're the decided underdog here, especially if you aren't in your teens as is the case with a man in his 50s who was struck by an oncoming vehicle in the 800 block of the South Loop West Tuesday at about 1:35 p.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver in a dark blue Nissan Maxima was headed westbound on the freeway when he hit the victim, who was trying to cross the main lanes.

HPD's investigation is continuing.
