Austin Men Jailed After Skateboard-Whipping Photographer for Mohawk Shot
You'd think Johnathan Washburn would dig it when strangers snapped his picture. After all, his unusual triple-Mohawk hairstyle seems like little more than a 24-7 "look-at-me" adornment, or possibly even a cry for help.
This guy's hair is impervious to photography.
According to this American-Statesman report, that was decidedly not the case earlier this week in downtown Austin. Washburn, 23, and 19-year-old buddy Timothy Beard are alleged to have assaulted and robbed a man who dared attempt to digitally memorialize Washburn's spiky, A Flock of Seagulls-style coif.
The Statesman's Blotter picks up the tale.
The man who was assaulted said he had been taking photos of "anything that was remotely interesting or unusual," according to the affidavit. When he photographed 23-year-old Johnathan Washburn's mohawk, Timothy Beard, 19, told him to delete the picture from his digital camera, according to the affidavit.The man refused and Beard took his $100 Oakley sunglasses, the affidavit said. When the victim tried to get his sunglasses back, according to the affidavit, Washburn hit him on the left side of the head with the skateboard.
Yes, yes, some broz who rock Oakleys deserve beatings simply for rockin' Oakleys, but come on...
The victim called police, who soon tracked down the less-than-inconspicuous Washburn at a nearby bar. Beard was lurking in a nearby park, the Oakleys still in his possession.
Beard was charged with theft from a person, a state jail felony. Washburn faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, in this case his skateboard. That's a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison.
None of the men were cited for their many and varied crimes against fashion.
