Television in the `70s & `80s: Long, Long Attention Span Theater

YouTube goodness stumbled upon: The opening of a new campus for Alvin Community College. Note how much airtime is expended on this. Note the fashions. Note Dave Ward.

Of course, it's not like you didn't have a choice back then. As this pitch for advertisers from Channel 67(Huh?) shows, you could watch a station that offered Roller Derby, the Glorious Ladies of Wrestling, Shirley Temple movies, and Dobie Gillis.

Who could ask for anything more?

Well, you say, what about a cheesetastic theme song? DONE.

Dana Milliken is one of the GREAT women from Channel 13. Thanks for finding this gem. She left here for California and, as far as I know, she's still there.

Channel 67 very quickly changed their format to the newly introduced Home Shopping Channel where you could buy the beanie babies, etc. As far as I know, it's still on the air.

Who doesn't love G.L.O.W.? According to wikipedia, that station later became home shopping and now is a Univision owned station.
