A female student is in custody Tuesday morning after a fire at Hamilton Middle School at 139 East 20th Street in the Heights. According to an HISD spokesperson, fires were set in a third-floor classroom and in the auditorium on the second floor.

The building suffered heavy smoke and water damage and 35 computers were destroyed. As a result, classes at the school were canceled Thursday and repairs are underway.

HISD has provided a bus to transport students who do show up for school to Hogg Middle School, where they can be picked up by parents. If parents are unavailable, the students will be provided supervised educational activities and taken home at the regular time.

Update: HISD Media relations have posted some photos of damage to the school in their Twitter stream. Check them out here.
