True cowboys and cowgirls are hard to find, but not at the Houston Rodeo. Life on the road leads them here this time every year for the biggest rodeo in the world, where they'll ride and wrangle livestock for cash and glory. Each day, Hair Balls will spotlight one person with enough dirt on their boots to call themselves a cowboy -- and mean it.

Name: Steven Peebles
Age: 21
Hometown: Redmond, Oregon
Event: Bareback riding

I got started rodeoing back when I was 13. My uncle was an old bareback rider, and he kind of got me going. I took off rodeoing. It's just kinda something I've always wanted to do, and something I've always wanted to be good at.

In terms of danger, it ain't bad. You can't think about it that way, otherwise it can be scary.

Before I ride, I just think about everything positive about it, and everything you have to do to win. Have fun, and don't worry about it. Just have a lot of fun.

I've had a few injuries, a few broken bones. Legs and arms and stuff. Broke both my legs, broke my elbow, broke my wrist, and then just kinda done a bunch of other damages: sprains and muscle tears.

Lotta cowboys have a bad name for partying and drinking and doing all that stuff. I mean, everyone has fun and does their deal, but...you kinda gotta be more of an athlete now.
