Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na, BAT VAN!

One wonders if the HPD Lego BAT Van will be hitting shelves this year.

​The Houston Police Department posted a video on their YouTube account today to inform Houstonians about a new DWI crackdown and a new vehicle they think will aid them. The Breath Alcohol Testing or "BAT" Van is a mobile facility for processing potential drunk drivers.

We doubt the four vans, which will be distributed throughout the city, contain missile launchers like the fictional Batmobile or the metal force shields of the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle from the movie Stripes, but HPD hopes they will make it easier for officers to quickly detain suspects, drop them off and get out on the street.

"[An officer] can just drop off a drunk and we can process him," said Assistant Chief Brian Lumpkin, calling the BAT Van a "one-stop shop."

The video explains that this is all part of a six-month initiative to double the number of officers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights looking for drunk drivers. According to the video, Houston leads the nation in alcohol-related fatalities and, as Captain Carl Driskell puts it, "You like to be a leader, but you don't want to be leading the nation in this particular category."

So, this weekend, when you're cruising down Washington Avenue in your Hummer hammered on Jägerbombs and you end up in HPD's mobile drunk tank and good time fun machine, don't say we didn't warn you.
