Another anti-DWI crackdown is under way
Law enforcement agencies like the DA's office always like to tout new anti-DWI drives, usually tied to a holiday.

The Houston Police Department got in on the game today, holding a press conference with MADD to let the public know they'll be cracking down with some heightened enforcement.

They'll team with the DA's office, use the mobile blood-alcohol testing vehicle, have the judges and nurses on hand, and nab as many impaired drivers as they can.

"We're going to have a couple on the north side and a couple on the south side every week," said HPD Assistant Chief Brian Lumpkin. "We're going to get out there and find these drunk drivers before they get into crashes."

Well, it would probably be easier to catch them after crashes, but we see the logic.

This latest initiative was begun on February 10, and on three days this past weekend 108 arrests were made. That figure was 19 higher than the same weekend the previous year.

As always, it's best not to drink and drive. But if you do have a beer and get behind the wheel, be on the lookout.
