Some Good Metro News: Light Rail Will Be Working This Weekend!

Metro's light rail will actually be working this weekend

Hey, you take your good news any way you can these days.

All of you saying, "Shouldn't a light rail system be designed to work on a weekend?" are forgetting the mammoth construction project that is a new pedestrian bridge in the Medical Center, mega-build so huge it was supposed to cut off light rail service for the first three weekends of January.

Not this weekend, though.

Next weekend, well, yes, it's back to no service.

The official statement from Metro:

Construction of a bridge at Texas Children's Hospital in Texas Medical Center will not require METRORail service to shut down this weekend as originally planned.

METRORail will run on a normal weekend schedule, January 14 - 16, 2011.

The next rail service interruption to accommodate bridge construction will begin at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 to midnight, Sunday, Jan. 23.

Normal rail service will resume Monday morning following the closures. During the shutdown rail customers will be served by shuttle buses running parallel to the rail lines both north and southbound every six minutes from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Passengers who normally board METRORail at the Main Street Square platform must catch the shuttle bus at Main and Walker (northbound) and Main and Dallas (southbound).

Customers travelling on the shuttle bus are advised to allow extra time (about double) for the trip. For schedules and fare information please visit www.ridemetro.org
