Gabrielle Giffords: NASA's Moment of Silence, and a Message From the Space Station

Categories: NASA
NASA held a moment of silence for the victims of the Tucson shooting today, victims who of course included Representative Gabrielle Giffords, wife of an astronaut.

The congresswoman's brother-in-law, Scott Kelly, spoke from the International Space Station as part of the event and criticized harsh political rhetoric.

"These days we are reminded of the unspeakable acts of violence and damage we can inflict upon one another not just with our actions but also with our irresponsible words," he said. "We're better than this. We must do better."

Earlier he sent a message via Twitter, calling Giffords "a kind compassionateb brilliant woman...[and a] true patriot. What is going on in our country that such a good person can be the subject of such senseless violence? It's a sad day."
