Say Vanderland Industries! IAH Gets New Baggage Handling System

The new baggage handling system at IAH is real, and it's spectacular.

​With pat downs and body scans and full cavity searches (we're pretty sure those are all real), it seems like airports are taking our safety pretty damn seriously. Sure, it's an inconvenience and there's a chance naked mannequin-like images of our naughty parts could end up on the internet, but it's a small price to pay for security, right?

Hair Balls got to wondering what the airports were doing to protect us from, you know, stuff in the luggage. With all this searching of our person, how can we feel comfortable there isn't a bomb in some random bag? In the case of Bush IAH, you won't have to worry any longer because they just had a state-of-the-art baggage handling system installed.

Vanderlande Industries, not to be confused with George Costanza's latex company, Vandalay Inudustries, recently completed installation of the new equipment at IAH including an inline screening system for safety.

Even better, the new system includes the first use in North America of software designed to make luggage sorting and organization more efficient. No word on what they can do to make travelers and customer support staff more friendly. We're guessing that requires a little more than a conveyor belt and some software.

Frankly, we're not even sure why IAH needs to improve since Houston apparently has the best airports in America, but we suppose even perfection can use a tweak now and again.
