• Right in the Middle - Liberals talk about Sarah Palin exactly how they talk about Dubya because they are, in fact, exactly the same. Both are morons who can't speak or think, and both have views based on their very narrow neo-conservative fundamentalist Christian belief systems. • so in 1931 a bunch of christian conservatives threw away 150 years of history and decided on a new moral tone for the country in complete defiance of the freedom of or from religion that there jobs are predicated on. United States is a nation of many people in many states as one country Obviously what the president says represents the true spirit of our country not peoples opinions that are designed to tear him down to make themselves stronger.

I believe the problem here is not that he mistakenly identified the motto, but that the mistaken identity of the national motto has become a problem in current events (ie, the controversy at the Capitol Visitor Center, people challenging the constitutionality of the motto, etc), and so in such an atmosphere it becomes doubly important for the chief representative of the country to support the mational motto, not relabel it and add to the confusion.

They obsessed on GWB and talked solely of their visceral hatred of the man. They marched on Washington. Their Christmas parties were glum affairs. Now they are talking the same shit about Sarah Palin. I thought one of my friends would surely blow a vein last week while describing her in unbelievably toxic terms, as if he knew her personally! As if she drowned his baby! My group of more conservative friends just shrug and head for the nearest voting booth. There's more to life than politics, people, believe it or not. Stop scaring me.

Pointing this out wrapped up the theme of his speech - "that Indonesia and the U.S. are closer in spirit* than one might think" - quite elegantly. • Talking of mistaking mottos (and confusing North and South Korea), the President's speech was made in Indonesia not India. It's so easy to get such things wrong, isn't it?

And yes, she's a modern gosh-golly blogger alright, but the Chron still proudly features Horoscopes based on 'the science of Astrology', as well as an entire section devoted to religion...and 'Faith'. Yet she'd never suspect she's in over *her* own head...that of rational thinking humans of the 21st century.

• Honestly, I didn't know we even had an official motto. That is so 17th century cool! But I would opt for Obama's choice over 'In God We Trust'. Or, maybe we want other countries to believe we are delusional? A detente-MAD mindset from the cold war era to ward off any potential threats.
