Just What America Needs: Four More Texas Votes In The U.S. House Of Representatives
Republicans in the Texas Legislature have already been salivating over the opportunity to redraw Congressional districts with little to no interference from those annoying Democrats.
Texas is a big winner
The U.S. Census just handed them another gift: Four more seats to mess with.
A 20 percent population increase means Texas gets an additional four seats, the biggest increase of any state. That means 36 votes in the House of Representatives will come from districts drawn up by Texas Republicans, God help us all.
Texas also sees its electoral college vote increase to 38 from 34.
Big losers in the shuffle are New York and Ohio, which lost two seats each.
The official population of the U.S. on April 4, 2010 was 308,745,538, almost a ten-percent increase from 2000.
Where will the new Texas seats be? Conventional wisdom seems to point to one in the Houston area, one in the Metroplex, and one in South Texas. Where the other will go is up to the GOP.
