Gary Kubiak Deathwatch: The Days Dwindle Down To A Precious Few

There are only three days left in December. That is the sole reason the updated Gary Kubiak Deathwatch is firmly pointed at "Gone in January" as opposed to "He's Outta Here."

There would be little point for Bob McNair to fire Kubiak now (on the other hand, there was little point to drafting David Carr, but that didn't stop McNair). Maybe a sea of empty seats Sunday will make him wish differently, but we doubt it.

After Sunday's season finale, one that could see the Texans end up 5-11, there will be a ritual meeting between owner and coach and, we firmly believe, a parting of the ways. If there isn't, we will sit back and watch as Bob McNair tries to pull off the biggest spin campaign of all time.

The question now seems to be whether GM Rick Smith will stay or go.If he does stay, we might have to start up a Rick Smith Deathwatch sometime next season, assuming there is a next season.
