Paul Broussard: Hate-Crime Victim Lives On In Parole Fight Over His Attacker
Jon Buice was at the center of one of the most publicized hate crimes in Houston history, a 1991 attack outside a Montrose gay bar that left Paul Broussard dead.![]()
Orgies with a female prison chaplain?
Buice was sent away, but now is the focus of an intense fight over whether he should be paroled. The city's most well-known gay-rights activist, Ray Hill, has been championing his cause, saying Buice has become a changed man in prison, but Buice's mother, and the city's most well-known victim's-rights activist, argue for keeping him behind bars.
Part of what the mother is using to fight parole are allegations that while in prison, Buice has been involved in a bizarre relationship with a female chaplain that involved orgies and secret videotapes.
It's all in our cover story this week, "Hate Crime and Punishment," by Chris Vogel.
