Ann O'Donnell: UH police officer killed
It's a sad day at the University of Houston Department of Public Safety, which for the first time has lost an officer in the line of duty.

Ann O'Donnell, who had been with UH Department of Public Safety a little over a year, was killed in a one-car crash as she was responding to a call.

"We are all saddened by the loss of this fine officer and friend," the agency says on its Facebook page.

"She was a fine, dedicated officer, and we are deeply saddened by her death," UHDPS chief Malcolm Davis said ina an official statement. "Our hearts go out to her family, friends and fellow officers during this difficult time."

O'Donnell, 24, had received a call about a possible assault at the Wendy's across from Robertson Stadium about 1 a.m. this morning and was responding, according to reports.

She was killed in the crash in the 4300 block of North MacGregor. The crash is still under investigation.
