When Ronald Mumphery quit as principal of Yates High at the beginning of this school year, no one had any answers as to why.

Now the Texas Watchdog is reporting that, based on documents it has, Mumphery resigned "after being accused of multiple acts of sexual misconduct with teachers and other Houston school district employees and one former student, some of which date back to the early 1980s, school system records show."

Mumphery not only denied any such allegations, he told the website he had never heard of them.

"I have never heard of this. I don't know anything about that, and nothing like that ever happened," Mumphery said in an interview with Texas Watchdog this afternoon. "Someone is out to smear me, I have never heard of that report, and I have never heard those allegations."
The report, which came out after 5 p.m. this afternoon, does not have the documents attached to it, although the website says it will post them in the future.

We've asked HISD for comment but haven't heard back. Spokesman Norm Uhl says "Last I heard there was still an ongoing EEO investigation, which is all I know."

Mumphery played a part in our story on Yates' championsip basketball team, "Third Ward High."
