​This is what 1900 Franklin looked like in 1943. Which, to be sure, seems a lot like what 1900 Franklin would have looked like in 1870 or so.

A horse-drawn carriage in 1943? Weren't people driving boxy Ford trucks by that time?

The photo comes from the great Shorpy historical photo archive site. They don't have a hell of a lot of Houston stuff, but apparently the city was too busy making the transition from horses to gas-powered vehicles to spend a whole lot of time taking pictures.
