A teenager who was chatting with friends was shot "without provocation" by one of the group and has died, Houston police say.
Sarahi Rosales Gutierrez, 19, was in a driveway in the 200 block of Tallant on the northside about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, visiting with friends, when a male took out a gun and shot her, HPD says.
"Ms. Gutierrez's friends then fled the scene. One of the friends hid the gun in his home, but later called police to report the shooting," police say. "The weapon has been recovered."
Gutierrez was taken to Ben Taub, where she died today.
A suspect has been identified but no charges have been filed yet.
