The Jerk Church Called: They're Running Out Of You

The meek shall inherit the earth, whilst calling people "jerks"

Commuters in Beaumont are, unwittingly or not, taking part in a bold new experiment in church advertising: The "You're a Jerk!" school of theology. The folks at the Bayou Blog first noticed the sign, which is for a local church with a snappy dot-info domain.

The church says Christians have become a bunch of "jerks" because they have forgotten the main tenets of their religion.

Ghandi had a very good point when he said "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

What a bunch of jerks. Prideful, hypocritical, selfish, judgmental jerks.

At Christ Covenant Church, do you know what our response is? Guilty as charged. We are fed up with it just as much as you are. We've failed. We've failed you, we've failed each other, and the worst part is that we've failed to act like Jesus.
Among the "jerk qualities" to be addressed: Pride, judgment, hypocrisy and selfishness.

It could work: An in-your-face, attention-grabbing attempt to shake up conservative churchgoers. On the other hand, it's in Beaumont.

We see George Costanza, though; he's tried out his "Jerk store" comeback line and he's not backing down: "It's a smart line, and a smart crowd will appreciate it. And I'm not going to dumb it down for some bonehead mass audience!"
