Galveston: 21st Most Dangerous Neighborhood? Doubtful

• i live close to galveston and go there frequently, the strand is very nice, but trust me if you go far enough down the seawall @ night you better know where your going you dont want to be lost out there. galveston doesnt have a high murder rate or whatever but it has a high percentage of crime to match the small population which is why its dangerous

• I lived in NYC for many years and recently moved to Houston. I walked home from my job at night, alone and never felt in fear for my safety in NYC. Here in Houston, I would never walk alone after 9 p.m. and I live in Montrose. Give up on the New York thing, the murder rate per capita is about 10 fold what it is in NYC!!!!

• It's talking about the neighborhoods. Every city, big or small, has rough neighborhoods. Galveston may be safe during the day, but it's a different story at night. I'm guessing the reason it's ranked up so high is because there are many bad neighborhoods in Galveston compared to the population size. And, remember that this list isn't official like the Morgan Quitno press. But I still gotta rep that 4 4 northside HTX

• LT-There are still PLENTY of crackheads, hookers, bums, thieves, drunks, etc. in that ghetto.

• I have been in this part of Galveston, east of the Strand area, at 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning looking for leftovers from Mardi Gras. I never had any problems; however, I was with three other people. I went along for the ride. My friends love to collect beads and such. Someone, I knew, once called this area of Galveston, "The Jungle."

• USA1, the "projects" you mentioned were torn down after Hurricane Ike. Galveston is currently as safe as it's been in decades.

• Downtown just means down the river. It's a direction, not a destination. If you're talking about what would be called downtown in most cities, you're talking about the Central Business District. Which is actually uptown of the Quarter. Yeah, I know. That neighborhood is the infamous/floody Lower Ninth. But it's a good couple of miles from the Quarter to there, and the neighborhoods in between are cool.

• i'm speaking generally east wyatt. downtown isn't east and i'm not going to look it up on google maps to appease you. you know where i'm talking about, over the little canal bridge or whatever.

• Again, a few blocks? East? You get an F, for fruit fly

• The Seventh Ward in Nola is scary as fuck. Good cookin there, though.

• "East" in New Orleans? Go downtown from the Quarter and you end up in Marigny and Bywater. If that's your idea of intimidating, then you should just stay in your hotel. Or are you talking about some of the old development neighborhoods on the other side of St. Claude? That would qualify as intimidating.

• most violence isn't random and most crminals are smart enough to choose easy targets. just because the strand is nearby doesn't mean it's not violent. it's perfectly normal to have dangerous neighborhoods near tourist destinations. you ever drive a few blocks east of the french quarter in NO, it gets intimidating quick.

• Well, no more Galveston for me. I'll stick to nighttime power-walking in Kashmere Gardens

• Walk down past the tourist shops into the projects that are right down the street at night and then say it's not dangerous. I dare you.

• Yeah, I was in Murray, UT, and almost got smothered by Mormon missionaries. Seriously, their methodology sounds whack--the most danger Paris, TX has seen was from that big tornado in the '80s.
