Dynamo Season Ends WIth A Relatively Rare Win
Better late than never, as the Houston Dynamo finally won back-to-back matches for the first time all season - MLS regular season that is. Unfortunately, they were also the last two games of the season for the Orange, as they take their first losing season since arriving to Houston from San Jose.
Now they truly are a Houston sports franchise.
Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear was pleased to see his team end the season on a high note, especially in two different types of games. In last week's win in San Jose, the Dynamo took an early lead and held on for the 1-0 win. On Saturday, in front of 23,990 fans at Robertson Stadium, the Dynamo came from behind to beat the Seattle Sounders FC 2-1.
"I thought we held up pretty well," Kinnear said. "Going down a goal, we easily could have held our heads down, and we didn't; I guess that's happy to see."
In the 27th minute, down 1-0, Geoff Cameron hooked up with Brad Davis and Dominic Oduro at midfield for a mini-game of keep-away at the expense of the Sounders defense. Oduro passed it back to Cameron, who this time was about 30 yards from the goal. After a long first touch, Cameron took his shot low, past the Sounders' keeper for the equalizer.
Moments after the start of the second half, Davis flicked the ball to Mike Chabala on the outside, who put in a quality service inside the box. Waiting there was Cam Weaver, who headed the cross in for the go-ahead goal.
"I think our two goals were good goals for the people that don't know too much about soccer, and great goals for the people who know a lot about soccer." Kinnear explained after the match.
The Sounders threatened with a couple of near misses, especially late in the game. In the end, as Bobby Boswell put it, it was the Dynamo who came out on top: "We came out on the right side of one for once; a lot of the games we had this year could have gone both ways, but we came out in the losing end. I'm just glad to be part of a win."
Seattle did get the last laugh though, because they'll be at the training pitch on Monday preparing for their first-round opponent in the MLS Cup Playoffs, the LA Galaxy. However, it was important for the Dynamo to give their faithful something to look forward to next season.
"Even though we had a shitty season, things didn't go our way, we finished it strong," Cameron said. "We gave it all we had on the field, and we tried to put on a good show for our fans.
"I thought we did that today."
