Dynamo's Troubles Continue: Can't Anyone Here Score?
A second half equalizing goal by Dominic Oduro was not enough for the Houston Dynamo as they fell to the New England Revolution 2-1. Once again, a pair of defensive miscues doomed the Orange to another home loss last night at the Rob.
Just before the half, the Revs played a long-ball into the Dynamo box, where Shalrie Joseph was able to slip behind the defense. After a short dribble to the outside, he sneaked the ball under Pat Onstad for a 1-0 Revs lead.
The Dynamo were able to equalize in the 59th minute. Richard Mulrooney sent a nifty cross into the box to Oduro, who's initial shot was blocked, but he was able to volley the ball back into net.
Then in the 73rd minute, Ilija Stolica pick-pocketed Ryan Cochrane and quickly found Kheli Dube of the Revs sprinting down the other side of the goal, who finished off the Dynamo with his second goal of the season.
"I don't have much to say, I let my team down again," said Cochrane after the match.
The Dynamo did have more shots on goal than their opponent, but just couldn't figure out how to get them past Revolution keeper Bobby Shuttleworth. Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear said the team only hurt themselves by not putting more on the scoreboard.
"Scoring goals does take pressure off of your team and puts pressure on the other team; at times we've done it this year and at times we haven't. Tonight's a night that we didn't take pressure off of ourselves; we applied it on ourselves more by making mistakes in both boxes."
With five minutes left in the match, the Dynamo had two players sent off. First, Joseph Ngwenya was red-carded for a reckless challenge in the 93rd minute. Four minutes later, Geoff Cameron joined Ngwenya when he saw red for a reckless elbow.
The Dynamo are on the road next week when they travel to San Jose to face the playoff-bound Earthquakes.
