Oprah shows some Houston love
That Oprah, she just can't stop with the giving.

Today, in connection with a show on public education and the documentary Waiting for Superman, she announced a $1 million gift to the YES Preparatory charter schools here in Houston.

"We had no clue," Yes Prep CEO Chris Barbic, who was on the show, told Culture Map. "We knew the show was about education reform, and that it was framed around Waiting for Superman."
YES Prep also issued a press release, according to the Texas Tribune:

The $1 million gift from Oprah is not only a great recognition of the work we are doing to close the achievement gap between low-income and high-income students, but it also helps us open more schools, serve more kids on our waitlist, and take another step closer to the day when every kid in Houston has access to a first-class college-preparatory education.
No trips to Australia or new cars, though.
