Dynamo Finally Find The Winning Column
Holding on to halftime leads has been problematic for the Houston Dynamo. In fact, they've lost their last two games with halftime leads.
So Dominic Kinnear and the boys took a different approach to Saturday's evening soiree with DC United: trail at halftime then comeback to win.
And it worked to perfection. Now Hair Balls couldn't confirm if that was Kinnear's actual game plan, but we can confirm the Dynamo's 3-1 victory in the nation's capitol.
After trailing 1-0 in the second half, the Dynamo got what seemed to be their first break in the season. In the 66th minute, Brad Davis found himself at the end of a cross and all alone in front of goal. Rather than just tap in the game-tying shot, he shanked it to the right. Luckily, the ball ricocheted off of DCU defender Devon Mc Tavish into goal.
Four minutes later, the Dynamo struck again off of a set piece. This time, it was Geoff Cameron who connected with a header to put the Dynamo up 2-1. Then in stoppage time, Dominic Oduro put the game away with a counter-attack goal.
Although the playoffs are pretty much out of reach for this team, it's good to see them still fighting for points. Even before they allowed the goal in the 29th minute, the team just had that feeling that they weren't going to lose this game. They attacked constantly all night -- which hasn't really been their problem. This time, they were able to put the ball in the back of the net. Had it not been for a defensive lapse in Kansas City last week, the Orange would be staring at a two-game winning streak.
Either way, the Dynamo will have their chance to make such a streak when they meet expansion club Philadelphia Union next Saturday. The team's next home game is on October 10, when the Dynamo celebrate Oktoberfest with a match against the New England Revolution.
