Bullet Train Between Dallas And Houston: It's Coming (Maybe)

How about a Lone Star flag on the front of that thing?
Houston business leaders got briefed yesterday by a Japanese company looking to build a bullet train between Dallas and Houston, with mostly private funds.

It's part of a U.S. offense by the Central Japan Railway, which, according to media reports, is looking to expand internationally as a way of keeping their business going.

Houston Tomorrow says a breakfast meeting yesterday hosted by the Greater Houston Partnership heard from CJR's chairman, Yoshiyuki Kasai, about the possibilities of a Houston-Dallas bullet train.
"Kasai used the meeting to brief the region's business leaders on the details and opportunities that Houston-Dallas high-speed rail service would bring to the Houston region," the report said.

Bullet trains come in two types, and it's probably not likely Texas would get the more expensive maglev trains that go 330 miles per hour or so. But who knows?

The idea has been kicked around, it seems, ever since there have been bullet trains. Estimates of how much the route might cost range from $20 billion to $40 billion, and we're sure there would never, ever be any cost overruns on the thing.

Most experts seem to think Florida would be the first place a Japanese company would put a bullet train, but Texas is apparently in the mix.
