Killed on the West Loop
A drunk driver killed his passenger on the West Loop Satruday morning, police say.

Rogelio Velazquez Morin, 37, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in the incident, which occurred in the 3100 block of the West Loop North about 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police say he was driving his black GMC pickup and failed to stay in his lane, clipping a tractor-trailer that had pulled to the shoulder because it had lost part of its load. The victim, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the GMC, was pronounce dead at the scene. Police have not revealed the identity of the victim, pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Velazquez was transported to MemorialHermann Southwest Hospital for his injuries and then taken into custody.
