Sunday evening about 500 people lined west Richmond Avenue to commemorate the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with a New Orleans-style second line parade.

The parade, which began at Dave & Busters, was a reunion of sorts for Katrina refugees still living in Houston, and was produced by Cloud 9 Entertainment and The Big Easy Ambassadors Social Aid & Pleasure Club. Occasional Hair Balls photographer Mark Britain was there and reported back to us with photos and this description:

[It] started at 5 p.m. at Dave & Busters where everyone packed into "the showroom" for a slideshow of photos, testimonials about the storm and the move to Houston. And there was a dj... the room was insanely packed!

Everyone lined up at 7 and the actual parade was underway. The police had one lane of Richmond blocked off for the revelers, but that didn't last...they took up all 3. It ended at Rocca Bar where the after-party happened. There were still hundreds in the parking lot when I left.
