Thierry Henry Comes To Houston, Doesn't Cheat; Dynamo Tie

Thierry Henry's Irish-hating hands came to Houston

​It took some last-minute heroics, but Dynamo midfielder Brian Mullan salvaged a 2-2 tie against the New York Red Bulls with his header in the 90th minute. The game at Robertson Stadium drew 24,750 spectators, and as one Dynamo official put it, they came out to see the international MLS debut of Dynamo midfielder Anthony Obodai .

The Red Bulls also had an international player making his MLS debut, Frenchman Thierry Henry. Two fans in particular were there to see the former Barcelona FC striker, as they rushed the field after Mullan's goal to give Henry a Texas-sized hug.

New York struck first in the 10th minute, when Juan Pablo Angel took a bad Dynamo clearance and deposited it into the back of the net. In the 24th minute, Dynamo forward Joseph Ngwenya was taken down in the box, awarding the Orange a penalty shot. Brad Davis stepped up and tied the match at one.

Henry got a couple of shots against the Dynamo in the first half. In the 40th minute, Henry took a pass up the middle to go on a one-on-one breakaway against Dynamo keeper Tally Hall. "When you start thinking 'its Thierry Henry coming,' you're already beat," Hall said. "I was ready for him to try to dribble by, I was gonna be on my feet but at the same time you got to stay big. It's nice that he hit it wide."

Henry's shot went just wide of the right goal post, keeping the tie intact for the Dynamo. The score remained 1-1 until the 58th minute, when Henry sent a pass to Angel, who netted his second goal of the game with a shot over the shoulder of Hall.

The Dynamo made a couple of second-half subs that paid big dividends; one of which was Mullan. It was in the 90th minute that Brian Ching held the ball and passed out wide to Andrew Hainault. Hainault then sent a cross to the back post, where Mullan was there for the header.

The Dynamo next see action on Thursday night, when they take on the Monarcas of Morelia in the Super Liga semifinals at Robertson Stadium. They return to MLS action on Sunday, when they travel to Seattle to take on the Sounders FC.
